Visual perception factors on the soundscape of urban shopping streets: Environmental factors

Abstract In urban areas, the urge to improve acoustic environments has led an increasing interest in soundscape as alternative approach address noise pollution issues. Several studies have shown that can manage unwanted sound and transform it into resource while street context is expected play important role too. Thus, this study aims assess visual perception factors on (appropriateness, calmness, eventfulness) of shopping environmental factors. Data was collected three streets at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia through a survey (n = 411) according ISO12913-2 technical specifications standards. Multiple Linear Regression used analyse data. The findings revealed aspects, are: (1) interesting, beautiful harmonious indicators under quality environment dimension were highly preferred by users. (2) All dimensions significant effects predictors. Appropriateness (R 2 =.454) most prominent factor, followed eventfulness =.298) calmness =.139). (3) higher impact (β=.536, β=.356, β=.202) than other predictors comparing standardised coefficients. result from present showed could be helpful for better understanding soundscapes assist planners, architects landscape designing conducive streets.
